As of Friday, July 5, 2024, only 10,247 irregular migrants arrived in Italy via Tunisia, a decrease of 71.24%. In the first half of 2023, more than 35,000 irregular migrants arrived in Italy via Tunisia.

Italy’s Nova News Agency reported the news on the same day, citing statistics from the Italian Ministry of the Interior.

These new statistics therefore prove that the number of migrants arriving in Italy by sea has slowed down in the first half of 2024, with Libya replacing Tunisia as the first country of departure. As of July 5, 2024, at least 25,692 people arrived on Italian shores, which is still a decrease of 60.85% compared to 67,102 in the same period of 2023.
