World Health Organization Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus warned that Gaza’s health system is at risk of catastrophic consequences due to fuel depletion or lack thereof.
“Only 90,000 litres of fuel entered Gaza on Wednesday, and the health sector alone needs 80,000 litres a day, forcing the UN and its partners, including the World Health Organization, to make impossible fuel options,” Ghebreyesus said on the “X” platform.
Currently, limited fuel has been allocated to major hospitals, including the Nasser Medical Centre, Amal Hospital and the Kuwait Field Hospital, in addition to 21 ambulances of the Palestine Red Crescent Society.
Tedros stressed that fuel is needed to avoid a complete halt in the provision of health services.
He said that since the European Hospital in Gaza has ceased services since July 2, the cessation of services by any other hospital would have catastrophic consequences.
