Kolkata Knight Riders lifted their third trophy on Sunday by defeating Sunrisers Hyderabad by eight wickets in the final of the Indian Premier League.
After losing the toss, KKR bowled out SRH with a brilliant performance, scoring 113 runs, the lowest score in an IPL title clash.
KKR chased down the target of 114 with 57 balls left. Venkatesh Iyer scored 52 runs off 26 balls and remained not out.
Mitchell Starc (2/14), Andre Russell (3/19) and Harshit Rana (2/24) were the most successful bowlers for the Knight Riders as SRH simply failed to play in this important match.
SRH chose to bat first but got off to a terrible start as they lost key players Abhishek Sharma and Travis Head and scored only 6 runs, with Travis Head being dismissed by a beautiful off-spinner off the first ball.
Prior to that, Abhishek was bowled by Mitchell Starc on the fifth ball of the first innings, a perfect delivery that the left-hander opened up before hitting the top of the stumps.
SRH were in all sorts of trouble as Starc took the wicket of Rahul Tripathi in the fifth over to leave them in a bind at 21/3 with the swing of the KKR bowlers doing the trick early on.
Opening bowler Harshit Rana continued his excellent performance by dismissing Nitish Reddy (13). Andre Russell dismissed Aiden Markram in the first over of the innings and SRH slumped to 62/5 in the 11th over.
SRH could not recover from that point on.
Brief results:
Sunrise Hyderabad: The team was all out for 113 runs in 18.3 innings (Pat Cummins 24, Mitchell Starc 2/14, Andre Russell 3/19, Harshit Rana 2/24).
Kolkata Knight Riders: 2 for 114 in 10.3 overs (Venkatesh Iyer 52 not out).
