Authorities are looking to arrest three people; two of them for fighting in Newport Beach, Vega Baja, and a third who was on federal probation for firing a gun into the air during an altercation that occurred over the July 4 holiday.
According to an investigation conducted by agents of the Bayamon Division with the support of the Criminal Investigation Corps (CIC), a fight broke out between several people at the shore of Newport Beach around 5:30 p.m.
During the quarrel, a young man was beaten and injured. A man on federal probation and wearing an electronic ankle bracelet set off multiple explosions in the air. No one was injured.
After police intervened, two people were arrested for obstruction of justice. Meanwhile, a third person was arrested on suspicion of shooting into the air.
The young man injured in the altercation was taken to hospital.
The intervention was carried out by the police’s Joint Rapid Action Force (FURA) unit and operatives posted to the Uniformed Police Battalion in Vegabaja.
In a written statement, Vega Baja Mayor Marcos Cruz Molina highlighted the immediate response of local and state authorities at the scene.
“Our security team acted quickly to keep everyone on Newport Beach safe. We will continue to work closely with the ongoing investigation to fully clarify the facts,” he said.
