Today, July 4, the most solid and enduring democracy in modern history celebrates its liberal feat in a rarefied atmosphere. America is caught between a dilemma: either a former president accused of multiple crimes or an octogenarian president whose competence is questionable. When Donald Trump refused to peacefully transfer power after losing the election, he undermined the foundations of democracy. On the other hand, Joe Biden, aware of his exhaustion, insists on running again, believing that he is the only one capable of defeating Trump.

There are growing calls within the Democratic Party for Biden to give way to younger candidates. However, there are also some who are eager to support him, from his family to Vice President Kamala Harris, who would be the most logical choice to succeed him when he retires. Biden is a decent man who may realize that stepping down is the best thing for his country. This gesture is in stark contrast to the indecent behavior of Trump, who has not stopped trying to take back power through lies and manipulation.

On social networks, it is believed that many Bolivians support Republican Trump and consider him to be aligned with the right, a trend that is gaining momentum in some countries. However, in the United States, even Democrats are not considered left in the traditional sense. Ideological dichotomies are secondary to other aspects. In the final analysis, a strong democracy can withstand many human shortcomings, but it cannot withstand the moral corruption of its leaders.
