Abdul Rashid Asari, who announced his support for the Selangor Menteri Besar this year, is temporarily placed between the government and opposition camps.
(FMT) – Abdul Rashid Asari, an opposition member of the Selangor State Assembly who announced his support for Menteri Besar Amirudin Shari earlier this year, is no longer an opposition member of the Selangor State Assembly.
Selangor state assembly speaker Liow Eng San said Rashid was temporarily placed between the opposition and government camps as he does not currently belong to any political party.
“This (seating arrangement) also takes into account his qualifications as a second-term MP, and his previous experience as a state executive councillor,” Bernama quoted Liew as saying.
Liew decided to take up the matter after state opposition leader Azmin Ali sought clarification on Rashid’s seating arrangement, which Azmin said was necessary to “ensure harmony and smooth conduct of Parliament”.
On June 21, Azmin, who is also the Selangor PN chairman, informed Low that Rashid was no longer a member of Bersatu.
Azmin said this meant Rashid was no longer an MP for the Selangor state assembly and his seat should be vacated.
