There was a serious escalation on the Lebanese front Thursday as Hezbollah responded to the assassination of its leader and continued its bombing campaign in support of the Palestinian resistance in Gaza.
According to Al Jazeera, hundreds of missiles and drones were launched from Lebanon, targeting more than 100 locations in the Upper, Lower and Western Galilee, the Golan Heights, and the coastal areas of Nahariya and Acre.
Dozens of fires were reported in various locations in the Galilee and the Golan Heights.
Lebanon reportedly fired missiles at Israeli soldiers’ vehicles, killing one Israeli soldier and injuring others.
In addition, sirens were sounded again in all towns in the Hula Valley and settlements in the occupied Golan Heights following Lebanese shelling, the report added.
200 missiles
Hezbollah sources told Al Jazeera that the group fired more than 200 missiles of different types at Israeli bases in the Galilee and the Golan.
The source added that more than 20 drones were used to attack multiple Israeli locations in the Galilee region, saying that these new attacks were a continued response to the assassination of the leader of Hezbollah’s “Aziz” force, military commander Mohammad Nima Nasser.
The source further elaborated that the missile strikes targeted the headquarters of the newly established 91st Israeli Division in the Eilat military camp, the headquarters of the 7th Armored Brigade in the Katchafiya military camp, the Gamla and Yarden military camps, and the Israeli Nafah base.
In addition, drones also attacked the northern region BroadCast Unitedligence center of Israel’s Mishal base, the Iliana base of the 143rd Division, 35 kilometers from the southern border of Lebanon, and the Shraga military camp where the Golani Brigade and Egoz forces are located.
Hezbollah has claimed responsibility for rocket and drone attacks on several Israeli military bases.

Soldiers injured
On the Israeli side, media reports confirmed that a military vehicle was hit by Lebanese artillery and soldiers were seriously injured.
Israel’s Channel 13 reported that hundreds of rockets and drones were fired in the past hour.
Israeli Army Radio confirmed that two buildings in Acre and the Rajaba area to the north were directly hit, while Israel’s Channel 12 stated that the direct attack on Acre was caused by falling fragments of an interceptor missile.

They also confirmed that the attacks caused several fires in open areas in the Golan Heights and the Galilee region.

Hezbollah’s response
Hezbollah announced on Wednesday that it had fired more than 100 Katyusha rockets at the Golan Division headquarters in Nafa camp, the air defense and anti-missile headquarters, and the ground forces battalion in Kaira camp, and targeted the Zarit and Kiryat Shemona camps in retaliation for the assassination of its military commander.
The Israeli military claimed that it attacked Hezbollah targets in the Shehin, Balat and Shebaa regions in southern Lebanon on Wednesday/Thursday night.
The statement mentioned that fighter jets carried out air strikes on Hezbollah targets throughout the night, attacking a military building in Shehin and three hostile buildings in Balat, and also carried out strikes in the Shebaa area to eliminate the threat.
The situation on both sides of the Israeli-Lebanese border has escalated significantly in the past few hours since Israel assassinated the leader of Hezbollah.

Tensions rise
Since Israel launched its war on Gaza on October 7, the Lebanese Hezbollah movement has been directly but relatively limitedly involved in the war against Israeli occupation.
According to Hezbollah sources, the movement conducted 1,194 military operations in the first 250 days of the war, killing and wounding more than 2,000 Israeli soldiers.
Israel occupied parts of Lebanon for decades, only leaving the country in 2000 after stiff resistance from Lebanon, led by Hezbollah.
In 2006, Israel attempted to reoccupy Lebanon but failed, which Lebanon considered a major victory over Israel.
However, Israel continues to occupy parts of Lebanon, particularly the Shebaa Farms area.
Hezbollah has vowed to retake every inch of Lebanese territory occupied by Israel in violation of international law.
