The Ministry of Transport announced that 544 maritime affairs service transactions were completed in the first quarter of this year. The Ministry released a statistical statement yesterday on its official account on the social media site, which included the most important services provided to maritime vessels (registration, renewal and transfer of ownership), as well as the approval of maritime qualification certificates for senior officers, marine engineers and safety officers.
Services for foreign vessels operating in Qatari waters have also been completed, including a package of services such as requesting transfer of ownership, obtaining seaworthiness certificates, etc.
In this context, the Ministry of Transport has also launched a series of new digital services related to small vessel transactions in the maritime transport sector as part of its efforts in digital transformation and automation of service provision, which will help achieve excellent shipping performance, fast completion of transactions and simplified procedures.
The list of new services that are open to the public on the Ministry of Transport website on a trial basis includes nine services, namely: (Small Ship Registration Service, Ship Registration Renewal Service, Ship Specification Change Service, Lost Reissue Service, Ship Cancellation Service, Ownership Serial Certificate Issuance Service, Mortgage Release Service and Ownership Change Service) and the delivery service of the maritime media card through Qatar Post. These services will enable the public to submit requests from anywhere. And around the clock, saving time and effort.
It is worth noting that the Ministry of Transport’s maritime transport department, within the framework, strives to modernize and develop maritime transport by creatively applying international maritime conventions and tracking their development to adapt to the rapid development of international shipping. The strategic plan of the ministry aims to ensure safe maritime navigation that meets all conditions.
The maritime sector is also committed to developing a legal framework to regulate maritime operations and strengthening technical and administrative work in the areas of inspection, examination, control, accident investigation, etc. The maritime sector has made it a priority to ensure the quality of maritime services and means, ensuring that all ships meet international safety and safe navigation conditions by spreading a culture of quality, raising awareness of the best international standards and practices, and developing a complementary system of ship inspection procedures. As part of the industry’s efforts to achieve the strategic goals of Qatar’s National Vision 2030, the maritime industry is also keen to coordinate with the International Maritime Organization and follow up on its protocols and publications, and show flexibility to continuously review national legislation in a manner consistent with the vision and interests of the State of Qatar to align it with relevant international legislation.
In the same context, the Ministry of Transport has made great progress in the qualification and training of cadres working in the maritime sector, organizing training courses and workshops for maritime affairs personnel and experts from relevant state agencies to update their professional knowledge. Awareness campaigns have also been carried out to monitor the compliance of captains of various types of seagoing vessels and the observance of health procedures and maritime security and safety instructions that must be followed.
Qatar Ports will continue to play a key role in enhancing the State of Qatar’s position in the maritime sector, ensuring the smooth flow of goods and supplies to local markets through the country’s commercial seaports, in addition to its traditional role in overcoming difficulties. In addition to its role in consolidating the position of Hamad Port as Qatar’s main gateway for world, regional and global trade, the strategic plan aims to remove all obstacles in the supply chain and ensure the smooth operation of commercial and tourist ports. The Ministry of Transport aims to transform Qatar into a vibrant regional commercial hub in the region.
