Police found a battered body believed to be that of former world high jump champion Jacques Freitag in a field near the Zandfontein cemetery in Hercules, west of Pretoria.
The last time Freitag’s family saw him was on June 17, when relationa man picked him up at his mother’s home in Bronkhorstspruit.
Asked if Freitag had died, Gauteng police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Mavela Masondo said search and rescue teams had found a body on Monday afternoon.
