July 2, 2024 (Omdurman) – The Sudanese army announced on Tuesday that its forces have regained control of the Doha neighborhood and its surrounding areas west of the city of Omdurman in Khartoum state.

According to a statement issued by the armed forces’ official spokesman’s office, “the army has achieved a significant victory in clearing the Doha area and its surrounding areas.”

The military confirmed that its forces seized and destroyed several combat vehicles belonging to the so-called “Dagalo family terrorist militia” and killed several members of the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) that have been controlling the area since the outbreak of the war in mid-April last year.

The Doha area is a line of defense for the Rapid Security Forces, protecting the Dar es Salaam area and its general control area in parts of Umbada, Libya market and Kandahar market west of Omdurman.

In March, Sudanese troops regained control of the Radio and Television headquarters and the old Omdurman area.

Subsequently, Indian troops made progress, taking control of parts of the suburb of Ombada west of Omdurman, while the suburb of Salha south of Omdurman remained under the control of the Rapid Security Forces, and reached the Jebal Oliya area in the southwesternmost part of Khartoum State.

Meanwhile, Sudanese troops bombed several Rapid Security Force positions east of El Fasher, the capital of North Darfur state, on Tuesday morning. The Rapid Security Force also bombarded several locations west of El Fasher with heavy artillery.

Clashes broke out between government forces and the Rapid Security Forces in areas north and east of the city of El Fasher on Monday evening.

Sudanese troops and allied forces have made advances on the northern and eastern axes of the city, according to local sources reported by Sudan Tribune.

The United Nations said the fighting in El Fasher has entered its third month, threatening the lives of 800,000 civilians. Local organizations said about 143,000 El Fasher civilians have fled the fighting, most of them displaced to Tawila, about 60 kilometers west of El Fasher, and villages near Jebel Marra in central Darfur.
