Egbin Power, one of Nigeria’s leading power generation companies, has established an innovation centre that aims to equip students with the entrepreneurial, practical and creative skills needed to thrive in a modern educational environment.
Named “Bright Gyimah Innovation Centre”, the innovation centre is located within the Powerfields Group of Schools in Ikorodu and owned by Egbin Power (a member of Sahara Group) and provides students with the opportunity to develop skills in Information Technology and Artificial Intelligence, as well as explore their creativity in the fields of art, music, cooking and hospitality.
Felix Ofulue, Head, Corporate Communications and Brand, Egbin Power Plc., said the programme aims to create a vibrant learning environment conducive to creativity and innovation.
He reiterated the company’s commitment to developing future leaders who will drive the nation’s progress and prosperity, noting that the initiative reflects the company’s dedication to advancing education and highlights their readiness to continuously develop future leaders.
Bright Gyima’s daughter, Caroline Uzoigwe, commended the Egbin Power board and management for naming the innovation centre after her late father, the former managing director of the plant.
“Education has gone beyond classrooms and textbooks, it involves putting knowledge into practice and application. That is why this innovation centre is so significant. It is commendable and significant. The management is commendable because it shows commitment to the growth and development of the school, students and the education sector,” she said.
Speaking on behalf of the Powerfields Schools Group Management Committee, Ejiro Gray, Sahara Group Governance and Sustainability Director, stressed the importance of equipping students with skills for the future.
She said the Innovation Centre is a transformative initiative that provides the skills needed in the 21st century to enable students to develop entrepreneurship and become innovators.
Powerfields Group of Schools Administrator Ngozi Emezue said the facility will provide experiential learning, boost students’ confidence and enable them to translate theoretical knowledge into practical applications.
Parent Teachers Association (PTA) president Matthew Amadi commended the management committee for continuously raising the standards to make it a one-stop learning institution and stand out from the crowd.
