ABC has secured broadcast rights to Wimbledon, the second major tennis Grand Slam deal the national broadcaster has signed this year.

The ABC will be working with the BBC to bring all the action live to Australian tennis fans on ABC Sport Digital from 10pm (AEST) on July 1. Coverage from the All England Club will be led by a star commentary team led by former Wimbledon champions Pat Cash and Marion Bartoli, alongside four-time Grand Slam champion and long-time Australian audience favourite Kim Clijsters.

ABC chief content officer Chris Oliver-Taylor said: “Securing the rights to Wimbledon is part of our audio strategy, led by Mike Fitzpatrick and Tim Verrall, to ensure Australians have access to the world’s best sport on radio.

Wimbledon is the biggest stage in world tennis and we’re excited to bring all the excitement and excitement to Australian tennis fans this year. With expert analysis and insight from our all-star commentary team, we’ll be showcasing the homegrown hopes and biggest matches from Centre Court live and free to watch across our broadcast and digital platforms.”

The ABC this year partnered with the Australian Open to cover our home Grand Slam at Melbourne Park and secured audio rights to last year’s FIFA World Cup, giving viewers a taste of the excitement of a Matildas-inspired campaign. The Ashes and the current ICC Men’s T20 World Cup complete an incredible run of coverage of the world’s major sporting events over the past 18 months.

The team will commentate on major matches and finals, with BBC tennis correspondent Russell Fuller providing match commentary, coverage and interviews throughout the tournament, which runs from July 1-14.

The ABC Listen app is the best place to listen to live coverage of Wimbledon every day, via the dedicated tennis button on ABC Sport digital channels.
