Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif held a meeting with Azerbaijan’s Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources Mukhtar Babayev on Friday. The meeting took place after Minister Babayev visited the Prime Minister’s residence.
During the meeting, the Azerbaijani minister handed over an invitation letter to the Prime Minister SharifInstructions from Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev to participate in the COP-29 meeting in Baku in November 2024.
Prime Minister Sharif thanked the President of Azerbaijan for his warm invitation and congratulated him and the people of Azerbaijan on Baku’s selection to host the 29th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, the most important gathering of world leaders this year on the challenge of climate change.
In talks with Azerbaijani Minister Mukhtar Babayev, Prime Minister Sharif said,Pakistan It is one of the most vulnerable countries and has suffered adverse effects of climate change in recent years, including catastrophic floods in 2022.”
He further stressed that urgent action must be taken to build climate resilience. In this regard, he assured Azerbaijan of Pakistan’s full support and cooperation to ensure the success of COP-29.
Prime Minister Sharif accepted the invitation and said that he looks forward to participating in the COP-29 meeting, during which he will also have the opportunity to speak in detail with President Ilham Aliyev on bilateral relations, especially strengthening bilateral trade and investment.
At the same time, he once again invited President Aliyev to pay an official visit to Pakistan.
Minister Babayev thanked Prime Minister Sharif for receiving him during the meeting and expressed Pakistan’s support for the successful hosting of COP-29. He assured that Azerbaijan is committed to working closely with Pakistan to develop an agenda that properly showcases the needs of climate-vulnerable countries.
