The organization affirmed full respect for the brotherly Syrian people and supported their right to determine their destiny in the way they see fit without interference from anyone, also condemned the bloodshed and the use of violence against peaceful demonstrators, announced an apology and refused to accept any invitation to participate in the Damascus Film Festival before the fraternal Syrian people “Long Live the Free and Creative People”.

Some Egyptian artists have also decided to boycott the Damascus International Film Festival, which will be held in November next year. Their decision is based on their solidarity with the Syrian people and their rejection of the Syrian regime’s excessive use of force against its people.

Artist Amr Waked says: Participation in the festival is seen as a show of support for Bashar al-Assad against the Syrian people who were killed in Shahrukh, especially since the festival is backed by Bashar al-Assad and will be held in a theater named after him.”Artist Khaled El Nabawy said he agreed with Amr Waked on boycotting the festival.Out of respect for the blood of the martyrs killed by the Syrian regime, especially because the Damascus International Film Festival will not only be an art festival, but also a political festival to justify the policies of Bashar al-Assad against his people. “

Writer Tamer Habib said: The boycott of the Damascus Film Festival must be decided by the Egyptian Film Syndicate so that Egyptian filmmakers do not participate in a festival that supports and glorifies murderers.“.

Critic “Tarek El-Shenawy” said“The Egyptian Art Union has the right to decide to boycott the film festival sponsored by Bashar al-Assad and held in the Assad Cinema. If the artists accept the invitation, it will be considered as an endorsement of his behavior. This festival is not cultural, but a political festival in cultural disguise.”.

Director Ahmed Awad said “Egyptian artists who stood with the people in the January 25 revolution must stand with the Syrian people.

The Egyptian Film Producers Syndicate, headed by Captain Mossad Fouda, also issued a statement warning Egyptian artists not to participate in the Damascus International Film Festival in solidarity with the suffering the Syrian people have endured for months.

The statement, signed by members of the board of directors of the Syndicate of Cinematographers, confirms that the situation the Syrian people are going through, including the death of thousands of martyrs, does not allow the establishment of an arts festival there, considering that the participation of artists in the festival is disrespectful to the Syrian people’s revolution.

He said Film Syndicate board member, director Amr Abdeen: “What festival are they talking about and calling for? Are they in a coma or do they think Egyptian artists live in a false coma? We will not participate in a festival that supports and glorifies Bashar al-Assad, under his auspices, in a theater named after him. We will not betray the beleaguered Syrian people, we will pledge allegiance to the killers of Assad, and if any artist participates in this festival, we will consider him a traitor and he may face financial or professional punishment.”
