A 54-year-old motorcyclist, Juan Rafael Hernández Mora, died this Saturday evening in the accident at the intersection of the main entrance to the El Cairo neighborhood on Route 32 in Siquires, Limón.
According to the Red Cross, the initial report was received at 7:02 p.m., but by the time units arrived at the scene, the victim had already died.
Apparently Hernandez was heading home to Florida after attending an evangelical church event when he attempted to cross Highway 32 but failed to notice the Toyota Hilux heading towards Guápiles-Siquirres, which hit him.
The driver of the vehicle, Édgar Mora, told reporters nation The incident was very painful for him because Hernandez was his neighbor.
Another resident of the area, Salvador Diaz, urged for a pedestrian bridge to be built at the location as accidents often occur at the intersection.
The victim’s brother, Paulo Hernández, said he was single and devoted to agriculture.
