The weather is very hot during the weekdays, so the Venetian Lake is not suitable for weekend swimming, because the crowds on the open-air beach “Korzó” in Venice are very crowded at this time. I want to visit the slightly closer Dorog Palatinus Lake, which, according to the sensitive people of Pest, got its name because its water is as clean as the pools of the Margitziget Palatinus beach. I am also very curious, because I have never been there in my life, although it is not too far away.

Anyway, the road, due to the many residential areas along the way, took about 20.50 minutes without traffic jams. I finally approached the lake on the beach on the northwest coast. Despite the heat, I was able to park the car at the entrance. The ticket cost 400 forints, and for an additional 200 forints, they also promised to store valuables. Now there could only be one problem – I thought – the water was too cold. Well, according to my thermometer, the otherwise crystal clear water was 24 degrees, so this fear of mine was unfounded.

The experience of swimming was mostly reminiscent of training in the Adriatic. You can see at least 3 meters away, which is rare in Hungary, especially in late summer. I swam back and forth a lot, because I felt that I found landmarks of the depth everywhere, and I tried to find out what they could be. They are usually buoys, lowered to a height that can be seen from the surface. Divers probably marked something there. By the way, there is also a built-in diving course in the lake, and once someone swam past me in the depths, at least the bursting bubbles indicated that.
Finally, approx. I swam for 1 hour and 20 minutes, it was hot at times, but overall it felt good. It was strange that there were so many grains of sand floating in the water, which was the only thing that was different from the Adriatic, and of course fresh water, no bad smell or taste. Let’s say I didn’t see much wildlife during the whole time, maybe ten or twenty small fish. It’s not the same out at sea.
Overall, I found a pleasant swimming spot that I would happily return to. I got there 80 km In my career.
