Senate President criticizes Green Party’s dictatorial behavior on Santa Cruz statutory board

Senate News (07-25-2013).- The President of the Upper House, Gabriela Montaño, pointed out that the majority of the members of the Statutory Committee of the Legislative Assembly of the Province of Santa Cruz belong to the Green Party Civic Group, which acts in accordance with the Santa Cruz Statute “in an authoritarian, non-democratic, non-comprehensive, non-inclusive and non-participatory way” in the socialization process.

He also mentioned that, as a result of the commission’s actions, “four of the seven public hearings held by the commission in several provinces of Santa Cruz have been suspended.”

Montaño expressed regret over the attack on teacher Eulogia Bozo yesterday in the town of Portachuelo, “a teacher, a Bolivian citizen from Santa Cruz, with the same rights as any other citizen, was brutally attacked during a public hearing.”

The legislature provided statements and documents: “Here is an example of statements by mayors, elected authorities in different provinces, asking that these hearings be participatory and inclusive like social organizations.”

“The era of the Santa Cruz huts is over, this is the era of the people of Santa Cruz and the Bolivian people who live in Santa Cruz, they cannot continue to behave in this way,” he said.

Likewise, he condemned the commission for “convening its meetings a few hours early and changing the venue of hearings, thereby preventing social organizations from participating in these events and receiving their proposals.”

“We propose participatory and inclusive adaptations, we support these citizens and social organizations, and we will always do so because we believe in democracy and we believe in participatory construction,” Montaño said.

Finally, the legislative authority clarified that “this is not a confrontation between members of the sectional council of one party or another, but the whim and arrogance of a committee composed mainly of the Green Party, who did not want to listen to the people of Santa Cruz to adapt the statutes of the State Constitution”.
