Asabina is the lone warrior against Ori’s brutal plans

At the recent National Assembly session, BEP leader Ronny Asabina expressed his concerns over the new education project of the Ministry of Education, Science and Culture.

The project, designed to raise the grade and facilitate transition to the next grade, seems to largely exclude the interior, with the exception of Brokopondo.

Asabina stressed that only two of Brokopondo’s seventeen primary schools participated in the project, which he said amounted to internal discrimination and exclusion.

He criticised policies that made major decisions without adequate consideration of the needs of the hinterland.

Asabina advocates rethinking the policy, paying more attention to the problem of dropouts in the interior, and creating an encouraging and healthy education atmosphere for all children, regardless of where they live.

Ricky Stutgard responded on his Facebook page, saying Minister Ori wanted to address learning disadvantage but had not taken into account the domestic situation. “So the interior is sealed,” he pointed out.

He noted that at least 10 DNA members were from the country, along with seven ministers and a vice president.

“How is it possible that only one person (referring to Asabina) is protesting against Ori’s barbaric and cruel plan?” he wondered.

This discussion highlights an important point in the fight for equal educational opportunity: Policymakers must recognize the diverse needs of all regions to ensure fair and effective education policies.

Critics say this can only be achieved through a change in policy thinking so that no region or community is left behind.
