2024 legislative elections: Voting begins in the Overseas Territories

The 2024 legislative elections in Saint-Pierre and Miquelon have begun. Due to the time difference, some overseas territories have already started voting since Saturday, June 29, 2024. The following territories are affected by today’s vote: Guyana, Guadeloupe, Martinique, Saint-Barthélemy, Saint-Martin, Saint-Pierre and Miquelon.

At 8:00 p.m. Paris time, Saint-Pierre and Miquelon became the first overseas territory to start voting. Due to the time difference, the election work in the region has already begun.

At 1 pm Paris time, polling stations will open in Guyana and voters will be able to cast their ballots. Then, at 2 pm, voters in Martinique, Guadeloupe, Saint-Martin and Saint-Barthélemy will be able to go to the polls. From this Saturday, from 2 pm Paris time, French people abroad, especially those living in North America and South Americans, will also be able to vote.

In the Pacific, voters will cast their ballots on Sunday, but due to the time difference, they will start heading to the polls on Saturday evening, Paris time. So, at 10 pm on Saturday in Paris, polling stations will open in French Polynesia and Wallis and Futuna. At 11 pm Paris time, it will be Noumea’s turn, at 8 am on Sunday morning.

In the Indian Ocean, where the time difference is smaller, voters will cast their ballots on Sunday. Polls will open at 6 a.m. Paris time on Reunion Island and at 7 a.m. on Mayotte.

Overseas voters must elect a total of 27 deputies to the National Assembly to represent their respective territories in ballots on June 29-30 and July 6-7.

At stake are 27 deputy seats in various territories:

  • 2 Guyana
  • 1. Saint Barthelemy and Saint Martin
  • 1 Saint Pierre and Miquelon
  • 3 French Polynesia
  • 1 Wallis and Futuna Islands
  • 2 New Caledonia

  • 2 Mayotte
