Open Letter to Members of Congress

Dear Members,

Kampala, Uganda.

Dear Members of Congress,

I am writing to express my deep concern and disappointment with your tax policies, especially those on the agricultural sector, which disproportionately impact local residents. It appears that your actions are motivated by a desire for undue wealth that is obtained at the expense of the people you are sworn to serve.

History shows that development and prosperity are not achieved by exploiting one’s citizens. Countries like Botswana, South Africa, and Singapore have achieved remarkable growth and prosperity through visionary leadership, prudent resource management, and people-centered policies. Leaders like Lee Kuan Yew, Nelson Mandela, and Seretse Khama have demonstrated that development can be achieved without plundering one’s citizens. In fact, the Bible teaches us that “leaders are servants, not masters” (Matthew 20:26-28) and that “whoever oppresses the poor insults his Creator” (Proverbs 14:31).

I urge you to learn from the examples of parliaments that legislate for the good of the people, promoting development and prosperity for all. The Bible reminds us that “the righteous cares for justice for the poor, but the wicked does not” (Proverbs 29:7). I implore you to understand the problems of the people and work to solve them. If you refuse to change, change will change you. The Bible warns: “Like a rainstorm that leaves no harvest, so is he who oppresses the poor” (Proverbs 28:3).

I call for the dissolution of the current parliament and the election of new leaders who will truly serve the interests of the people. I urge Ugandans to stand up, demand change, and use every avenue available to spread the message, despite the government’s manipulation of the platforms. We must find ways around these barriers and ensure our voices are heard.

Sincerely,

Mwebesa Moses,

South of Mbulalala City
