A foreign motorbike rider was killed today after colliding with a car in the Sløverfjord tunnel on the E10 motorway in Hassel.
Nordland state police announced that the motorcyclist died at the scene.
– It’s very bad. My first thoughts go to the people affected by this, especially the family and friends. This is not something you want to happen at all, says Kari Vassbotn, Country Manager at Trygg Trafikk Nordland.
The Norwegian Public Roads Administration said it would take some time for the tunnel to open and advised motorists on the E10 in the area to stop at a suitable place and wait.
The tunnel was quickly closed due to the accident and emergency services and accident teams from the Norwegian Public Roads Administration were sent to the scene.
Police are working to notify the next of kin of the tour group and are being handled by the local crisis team. Police are at the scene conducting necessary enquiries. The sequence of events remains unclear. The tunnel will be closed for several hours.

Due to the E10 accident, people started queuing up.

Several motorcycle accidents occurred last week
At the latest yesterday, another motorcyclist was also killed in traffic in Nordland.
The incident in Rana was the second traffic accident involving a motorcycle in Nordland on Thursday. Earlier in the afternoon, two people clashed Motorbikes for Vefsn Ømmervatnet.
Earlier on Friday morning, a car and a motorcycle were involved in an accident on the Fløya highway in the municipality of Vågan in the Lofoten Islands.
The most common cause of death is motorcyclists in traffic accidents
According to the latest data from Trygg Trafikk, 50 people have died on the roads so far this year. Including today’s death, the death toll has reached 51.
By comparison, 46 people have been killed in traffic accidents as of June 2023. Of those killed in traffic accidents this year, 13 are now riding motorcycles.
– This is a very dramatic and sad statistic.
This was NAF MC Jan Harry Svendsen’s first reaction when he saw the Trygg Trafikk data in an NRK article earlier this month:
The tunnel opening will take time
It will take some time for the tunnel to open. It is an underwater tunnel that can only be navigated by ferry.
You can take a ferry between Fiskebøl and Melbu. You can also take a ferry between Svolvær and Skutvik, but the frequency of these ferries is infrequent.
The ferry connection Bodø – Moskenes is also an alternative, but the detour is quite long. Therefore, waiting may be a good option, but

An ambulance helicopter was also dispatched to the scene of the accident earlier today.
