A spokesman for Manchester Airport in the UK said that there were large-scale cancellations and delays of flights departing on Sunday due to widespread chaos caused by a power outage in the airport area.
The spokesperson added that a large number of departing flights are expected to be delayed or cancelled, especially those departing from Terminals 1 and 2.
Sky News, which first reported the unrest, said power supply issues affected the airport and some buildings. The report noted that power had been restored but the impact of the outage would affect services throughout the day.
“Passengers planning to depart from Terminal 1 or 2 are advised to contact their airline before travelling to the airport,” the spokesperson said. “Passengers planning to depart from Terminal 3 should report to the airport as normal unless advised otherwise by their airline, but they may be affected by delays.” (Reuters)
