An Afghan mother who applied for political asylum in the Free Zone reported the abduction of their three-year-old son by his Turkish father in the occupied territories.
According to the front page of the electronic newspaper Bugyoun Kypris, Afghan Martina M. and Turk Cihan Aygildiz came to the occupied territories with their son from Turkey a year ago to start a new life because their marriage was not accepted and welcomed by the husband’s family in Turkey.
The two decided to blow themselves up in the “South” and request political asylum. As the newspaper writes, after a few days in the refugee center, they were transferred to a family home. On May 12 last year, her father said he was going to take the children to the park, and they disappeared. Under pressure from her family, she returned to Turkey with her children through the occupied territories, she reported to Bugyoun Cyprus.
While Egildiz was arrested and imprisoned in the occupied territories for “illegally entering” the pseudo-state from the free zone, three-year-old Emirjian was transferred to a kindergarten under the supervision of the “Ministry of Social Services.” The child was separated from his mother for about two months, and as the publication writes, the child’s mother reported the incident to the KD authorities and the bicommunal Commission on Crime and Criminal Offences.
The publication said that so far there has been no result, noting that if the “director” of the “Department of Social Services”, who is the child’s guardian, makes a decision, then the child will be able to be reunited with his mother.
The matter appears to be monitored by the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees in Cyprus. Mother Martina said in tears in an interview with Bougiun Kypris: “My child doesn’t eat anything but breast milk. He and I are two months apart. We spoke on the phone twice. She kept crying and saying “Mom, take me away”. I want my child. I can’t live without it, I will burn myself.”
The newspaper also stated that the decision to deport the Turkish father, who is in prison, will be discussed in a “court” in the occupied territories on August 14. The mother is worried that the deportation decision will be made and Egildiz will leave the island with her children and disappear. The mother, who is waiting to be reunited with her children, is seeking help.
