“He’s certainly not dropping out,” said Seth Shuster, a Biden campaign spokesman.
Biden himself confirmed after the debate that he would not give up running for another four-year term.
“It’s hard to argue with a liar. The New York Times said he lied 26 times,” he said, referring to former President Trump.
Democrats widely criticized Biden’s performance in last night’s debate with Trump, with some acknowledging the need for a public debate over whether he should be replaced ahead of their national convention in August, where the party will formally name their nominee.
The US president spoke hoarsely throughout the debate, which the White House said was due to a cold, and he occasionally lost his train of thought or struggled to express his points.
A CNN poll of debate viewers found that 67% of respondents said Trump won the debate.
Biden’s campaign said it had set a record for fundraising that day and cited dozens of alleged lies from Trump and his refusal to commit to accepting the results of the 2024 election as signs that the debate was not going well for the Republican nominee either.
