Northwest (Haiti), June 27, 2024 (AlterPresse) – The head of the Ministry of Environment (Mde), Moïse Fils Jean-Pierre, officially launched on Thursday, June 27, 2024, the first phase of the Climate Resilience Initiative in the Trois-Rivières Watershed (Northwest Haiti), AlterPresse reports.
“Now is the time to act and deliver for the people,” said Jean-Pierre, who took the opportunity to thank all stakeholders for their support for the climate adaptation project in northwestern Haiti.
The project benefits from a grant of US$ 31 million, 200,000 over 8 years (Editor’s note: 1 US dollar = +140.00 gourdes; 1 euro = 142.00 gourdes; 1 Canadian dollar = 97.00 gourdes; 1 Dominican peso = 2.40 gourdes today) (2024-2032), the MDE emphasizes, is an important initiative for the sustainable management of land and water in Haiti and a major step towards a sustainable future.
The project is a collaboration between the Haitian government, the Green Climate Fund, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and Heifer International Haiti, and aims to promote resilient agricultural practices and strengthen climate risk management, Mde said.
