Khadene Thomas, a former NCB Capital Markets wealth adviser who stole $74.5 million from the institution’s client accounts, was sentenced today to two years in prison.
The 35-year-old St Ann resident previously pleaded guilty to 31 counts of forgery and three counts of theft as a servant at the St Ann Parish Court and was sentenced to one year in prison for theft as a servant and two years for forgery.
The two sentences, handed down by Parish Judge Larone Montaque, will run concurrently.
Thomas received a 30 percent reduction in her sentence based on her guilty plea.
The court also heard that $28,000 had been repaid to NCB today, and a further $70,000 had been handed over to Thomas’s lawyers to be passed on to the bank. Her family is also reportedly applying for a loan to help her repay the bank debt.
Prosecutors allege that Thomas transferred funds from the accounts of three customers between May 21, 2019 and December 20, 2022.
She stole US$256,291.83 and 9.5 million Jamaican dollars (from May 2019 to December 2022) from the first complainant.
In the second case, she stole US$37,680 and 570,302 Jamaican dollars between June 24, 2021 and December 15, 2022.
For the third complainant, Thomas stole $113,500 between January 13, 2020 and October 12, 2022.
Thomas was arrested last January following an investigation into the transfer of at least $5 million from a client account.
