168.am writes: In recent days, the government has launched an unprecedented manhunt for former mayors of the Artsakh Republic. Nikol Pashinyan mainly “accuses” the latter of stealing property through fraud. Such charges have been submitted to the mayors of Askeran, Martakert and Stepanakert. Askeran Mayor Hayk Shamiryan is under house arrest, Martakert Mayor 65-year-old Misha Gyurjian was arrested by the famous Nikola drummer Davit Arghamanyan, and Stepanakert Mayor Davit Sargsyan was arrested on May 25.
The problem is the cars that the mayors brought to Armenia during the forced expulsion of Artsakh. For example, the mayor of Askeran brought with him, in addition to his family, 3 other families. These are the cars registered on the balance sheets of municipalities in the Republic of Artsakh, and now the Armenian government accuses the mayors of illegally requisitioning them. In short, he says: why did you bring the cars, will you leave them in Azerbaijan, as we left the whole of Artsakh?
It is a tragedy and a disaster that Armenia, which has no jurisdiction over Artsakh, has initiated criminal proceedings against Artsakh officials over the transfer of state-administered properties of the Republic of Artsakh and detained Armenian people. The Pashinyan government has said at every opportunity that it has no jurisdiction over Artsakh, that Artsakh is Azerbaijan and nothing more, and now all of a sudden there are rallies and protests against the transfer of Tavush territories when there is an opposition movement in the country that remembers their sovereignty over Artsakh’s properties.
Besides politics, Armenia’s rejection of Artsakh’s request should also have legal consequences. The state of Azerbaijan has also acted in the same way by extending its jurisdiction over the territories gifted by Armenia and Artsakh.
The people of Artsakh, betrayed by this government, arrived in Armenia, and Nikol Pashinyan’s government does not even consider these people as Armenian citizens. So on what basis does he arrest and detain Artsakh officials?
I wonder if the Investigative Committee (IC), headed by Argishti Kyaramyan, has not considered opening criminal proceedings against any Armenian who has committed a crime in Belgium or Russia, or at least in Mozambique.
How is it possible to debase jurisprudence so much and lose the last bit of reasonable logic just for the whim of one man, just so that the mayor of Artsakh would not stand at the front of the people on Republic Square?
Now a question: if, according to your logic, Artsakh is Azerbaijan, and Azerbaijan is not interested in the fate of these cars (or they are interested, and you satisfy their demands – SG), then what do you have to do with the property of another country, and why? Are you broken for that property?
Or does the Armenian Investigative Committee still determine that Artsakh is Armenia and nothing more, and disagree with Nikol Pashinyan’s recognition that Artsakh is part of Adrejan? At whose request or instigation do investigators seriously initiate criminal proceedings in cases of theft and embezzlement belonging to Artsakh state institutions or local authorities, and even submit arrest applications to Armenian courts?
Or have they already solved all the crimes in our country and they are left with only the crimes on the territory of their “friendly” Azerbaijan?
