The Criminal Chamber for Financial Crimes of the Fez Court of Appeal handed down its verdict on Wednesday, June 26, in the trial of a network of “corruption, embezzlement, waste of public funds and abuse of power” operated by the Fez City Council.
The mayor of the Kingdom’s spiritual capital was prosecuted while on the run and sentenced to six months in prison for “falsifying agreements and contracts” in the same local authority. As a result, the court quashed the first-instance verdict and acquitted Abdeslam Bekali (RNI).
The court increased the sentence of former USFP deputy Abdelkader El Boussairi from 5 to 8 years and fined him 100,000 dirhams. It is worth reminding that last January, the Constitutional Court stripped El Boussairi of his position as deputy. The Administrative Court of Fez also removed El Boussairi from his position as the third deputy of the mayor of Fez.
