“We will take stringent action against all those involved in spreading sensitive classified information, especially information marked as classified on social media platforms,” Defence Minister Khawaja Asif issued the warning.

“The dissemination of such information will not only harm Pakistan’s strategic and economic interests but will also severely damage Pakistan’s relations with its friendly and brotherly countries. In this context, the federal government has decided to file a case under the Official Secrets Act, 2023 against all those directly or indirectly involved in the disclosure or dissemination of classified information or documents. The punishment for this offence is two years’ imprisonment and fine,” Minister Asif said.
However, the bureaucracy has made little clear distinction as to what information can be considered ‘secret’. Elaborating on this point further, Minister Khawaja Asif said, “law It should be used carefully and fairly, not to achieve political goals.”
Additionally, the Official Secrets Act 2023 also specifies acts that constitute offences under the Act, such as unauthorised access to restricted areas, files or information systems. The Act also criminalises acts such as making sketches or notes that could aid the enemy, or accessing sensitive locations or data electronically or physically without authorisation.
It is worth noting that the information about this matter has caused a strong reaction among people, and people have questioned the government’s security system.
