Exciting semi-finals set the stage for the Business House Touch finals

The College of Business Mixed Touch Hockey Championship entered its thrilling semifinal stage on Monday, with fierce competition and exciting performances from all 12 teams.

Cook Islands Touch Rugby President Waugh Williams stressed the sheer determination and competitive spirit necessary to succeed in the game of touch rugby, saying: “In touch rugby there can only be one winner and the semi-finals are all about determination and the desire to win.”

He noted that the team’s dedication was evident in every game.

The day kicked off with a match between Toa Division 1 and 2, which ended in a tie at full time. CSB vs. Soul Time and Te Mavericks Ora vs. Brew Crew, with Soul Time and Te Mavericks Ora eventually winning in overtime. This set the stage for an exciting Toa Grand Final showdown between Soul Time and Te Mavericks Ora, who will compete for the Division title.

In the Moana division, ICI Crew and Fibre Optics made it to the finals by defeating their opponents Rock College and Poos & Wees respectively.

At Mana Division Field 1, BCI and KAPS had a close battle, with KAPS emerging victorious. Meanwhile, at Field 2, Air Raro defeated Air New Zealand, with the two airline teams competing fiercely.

“The Mana Division final between Air Raro and KAPS will be another exciting match,” commented Williams, acknowledging that both teams showed skill and determination.

“Throughout the semi-finals, the players who performed well contributed significantly to the team’s success.

Williams noted, “Ariki of KAPS impressed with his agile play, while Robert Heather of ICI Crew displayed exceptional skills around the goal line.”

“Oscar from Air Raro wowed the crowd with his diving sprint, while Leo’s playmaking ability was instrumental in the team’s strategy.”

Looking ahead to next week’s finals, Williams said: “It will be an exciting final with Soul Time and Te Mavericks Ora competing for the Toa Division title, ICI Crew and Fibre Optics for the Moana Division title, and KAPS and Air Raro for the Mana Division title.”

Williams invites everyone to attend the final at the National Stadium next Monday (July 1) to witness the exciting climax of the mixed touch rugby season.

“I would like to thank all the participating teams, officials and enthusiastic spectators for their dedication throughout the competition.”
