Earlier that afternoon, Surinamese police arrested Mitchel J., 22, and Rowel DJ, 37, after they attempted to rob a Chinese shop owner of his necklace.

According to the camera images, the man on the moped stopped in front of a construction site next to a supermarket in Indira Gandhi Weg. The co-pilot got out of the car and walked into the supermarket.

Inside the shop, he took a packet of biscuits and placed it on the counter along with a 20 SRD note. When the shopkeeper was getting change from the cash register, the man snatched her necklace.

However, the woman resisted strongly, causing him to release the chain and run out of the store. He got on the moped where his companion was waiting for him and they drove north at a fast speed.

The suspects were eventually arrested by the Flora District Midden Regional Assistance Team (RBT Midden). The two confessed to the attempted robbery. There were clear signs that they were responsible for several robberies in the area.

Following coordination with the Surinamese Prosecutor’s Office, both suspects were detained. Investigations into their involvement in other crimes are ongoing. Report KPS.
