Top tennis semi-finals set to feature exciting clashes

The netball season in Rarotonga is about to kick into high gear as the extended Super League competition is narrowed down to the top four teams.

Last week’s knockout match at the Ngatangia Stadium was an exciting one, with fierce competition and resolute play setting the stage for the upcoming semi-finals.

In one of the most intense battles of the weekly competition, Tupapa clashed with Takuvaine.

The game was intense from start to finish, with Tupapa’s defence doing an excellent job of stopping Takuwane’s powerful attack, especially keeping a close eye on top scorer Lily Matatini, who averages an impressive 30 goals per game.

Despite Takuvaine’s efforts, which included quick transitions and efforts to get the ball to their tall shooters, they struggled against Tupapa’s stout defense.

Takuvaine goalkeeper Cathy Elder made multiple interceptions to keep her team competitive throughout the game.

However, it was Tupapa’s resilience that ultimately proved to be the deciding factor.

Tupapa had not yet recovered from their previous difficult encounter and they entered the match with a determination to win. Their performance fully reflected this determination, especially their round shooters Tassi Kop and Mel-Jean Pirie were extremely efficient.

Their strong mobility and accurate shooting left Takuvaine with little room to counterattack.

In the end, Tupapa narrowly won 44-36 and advanced to the semi-finals.

Meanwhile, on the other field, Arorangi put in a stunning performance, overwhelming Ngatangia 85-24, recording their biggest win of the season.

Despite facing player absences, Ngatangia fought hard in their final match against Arorangi Flames. However, the Arorangi defence was relentless, averaging 7 interceptions per quarter, and their shooters were on target throughout the game, making it a tough battle for Ngatangia.

This week, Tupapa will face off against season rivals Awatiu Dragonflies in an exciting semi-final. This match is particularly noteworthy as Awatiu are unbeaten against Tupapa this season.

However, there is a difference in the intensity and unpredictability of the semi-finals, which means anything can happen. Tupapa will need to be at their best to overcome past defeats and secure a place in the final.

Elsewhere, Arorangi Flames will face Titikaweka Pearls, who have been dominant throughout the season, showing their strength and consistency.

However, Arorangi showed significant improvement in the second round of the tournament. Their recent performances show that this team is hungry for the title and has the ability to challenge Titikaweka’s dominance.
