This Tuesday, Constructora El Salvador received the ISO 37001 international certification for its anti-bribery management system from the Spanish Institute for Standardization and Certification (AENOR).
The agency reported through a statement that since April 2024, it has been subject to a series of audits conducted by AENOR.
According to the construction company, the audit focused on the diagnosis of the activities carried out by the company, as well as the identification of inherent risks and the implementation of mechanisms aimed at preventing bribery.
During the analysis, mechanisms were also established to detect bribery and commitments were made under policies focusing on reporting such practices.
The collaboration with AENOR was divided into two main phases, the first of which was based on the preparation, planning and implementation as well as the degree of compliance with the requirements of the anti-bribery management system. For its part, the second phase was based on determining that the Salvadoran Construction Company met the requirements of the aforementioned international standards during the audit.
The Spanish association approved compliance with the standard at the end of May.
El Salvador’s construction company said it could enact measures such as contract expiration and imprisonment if suppliers were found to have engaged in bribery.
Arnulfo Pino, AENOR Central America Director, noted that in order to manage bribery within organizations, it is important to apply an effective framework to prevent, detect and address bribery in El Salvador construction companies.
“El Salvador Construction has an established policy of zero tolerance for any bribery that may occur internally or externally in connection with all of its activities,” Pino said.

Board member Fernando Aviles said the company had executed more than 30 projects across the country and therefore had the tools needed to “fight bribery.”
According to the company, works are currently being carried out on public lighting and illumination, as well as the construction of urban corridors in the historic centre of the capital, San Salvador.
The company also revitalizes historic centers across the country and maintains residential projects and underground wiring.
