The Colombo Fort Magistrate’s Court has issued an order restraining Ceylon Teachers Union General Secretary Joseph Stalin, Ven. Ulapane Sumangala Thero and eight others from holding demonstrations today (26th) at Galle Road, NSA roundabout and various roads in Colombo in a manner that would cause inconvenience to the public or pedestrians.

As a result, they were prohibited from holding protests, blocking sections along Galle Road from Ceramic Junction to NSA Roundabout, NSA Roundabout to Baladaksha Mawatha, and were barred from entering the Ministry of Finance, Presidential Secretariat, Central Bank of Sri Lanka and Presidential Palace.

The order also mentioned that government officials in charge of small groups only were allowed to enter the said premises with legally obtained permission to submit memorandums without any hindrance.

At the same time, the court also said that the order does not interfere with the fundamental right of peaceful protest and does not involve any illegality or cause any harassment to the public.
