Doctors at the Abderrazak Bouhara Hospital Foundation in Algeria have successfully removed 20 nails and a set of wires from the abdomen of a patient suffering from a psychological disorder.
The hospital administration said the complex surgical procedure lasted more than six hours.
The hospital agency confirmed that doctors successfully removed about 20 metal nails in addition to another set of wires that were stuck in the patient’s small and large intestines.
Sources said the patient suffered from a psychological disorder which caused him to unknowingly ingest large quantities of nails and wires in stages which lodged in his small and large intestines causing him severe pain, prompting him to visit a doctor.
The source added that after taking an X-ray of the patient, the doctors did not believe what they saw so they rushed him to the surgery department where doctors decided to perform emergency surgery on him.
