The programme is part of the World Bank-funded Resilience, Institutions, Skills and Equity (RISE) project to guide the implementation of the Skills, Innovation and Entrepreneurship (SIE) Facility. The launch ceremony was held at the MoHERST Conference Hall in Bijilo.
The SIE Fund was established to increase access to technical, innovative and entrepreneurial skills for Gambian youth, while improving the relevance and quality of TVET in the country.
Since its inception, the program has been committed to providing technical support for the implementation of the Social Innovation Fund.
In his speech, Dr. Yusufah Touré, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Environment, Health and Education of Turkmenistan, said that since they started working with the World Bank, they have developed programs around entrepreneurship and have carried out many entrepreneurial projects in The Gambia and elsewhere.
The RISE project also aims to expand the MoHERST concept to align with the TVET education system, thereby developing talent that creates job opportunities.
He further said that they will open applications to both public and private training institutions to train a certain number of students for a particular course in their respective institutions for one academic year.
He stressed the importance of the National Accreditation and Quality Assurance Agency (NAQAA) in guiding the implementation process of labour market related programmes.
Samba Bah, Director of Technology and Innovation Sciences at MoHERST, also gave a wonderful introduction to the SIE Fund projects and related documents.
