The Lebanese Air Transport Union (UTA) has refuted reports in the Daily Telegraph that Hezbollah is storing missiles and explosives at Lebanon’s main airport, criticizing the claims as baseless.
UTA refuted the Telegraph’s allegations, calling them “mere fantasies and lies aimed at endangering Beirut Airport and its civilian staff, as well as passengers traveling to and from the airport, all of whom are civilians.”

The Air Transport Union also called on the media and “those reporting and spreading false information” to be responsible for the safety of all personnel working in all facilities at Beirut Airport, including the passenger terminal, departure and arrival areas, aprons, maintenance areas and civil aviation cargo areas.
In a statement, UTA invited all Lebanese, Arab and foreign media to “come to Beirut airport with film crews to verify in person, otherwise we will consider the content promoted by suspicious media as incitement to kill us.”
Lebanon’s caretaker Minister of Public Works and Transport Ali Hamiyeh addressed the issue at a press conference, saying, “Beirut Airport has been subject to false information for years.”
Hamiyeh criticised the British daily for publishing a “ridiculous” and unfounded report citing anonymous sources, and suggested that they should consult the UK Department of Transport, which conducted a site visit to the airport on January 22, 2024.

“This is the primary agency responsible for airport traffic matters,” he said.
Hamiyeh questioned the newspaper’s credibility, asking: “Is it conceivable that a reputable newspaper would change its sources within an hour?”
The caretaker minister also invited all media and ambassadors or their representatives to the airport tomorrow at 10:30 am to visit all airport facilities to verify that the airport is strictly civilian infrastructure and no weapons are smuggled through the airport.
“We have nothing to hide,” he stressed.
Hamiyeh also announced plans to file a lawsuit against the newspaper and promised to provide more details later.
