The Australian High Commission in Honiara has confirmed that Prime Minister Anthony Albanese will welcome Solomon Islands Prime Minister Jeremiah Manell to Australia from Sunday 23 June 2024 to Saturday 29 June 2024.
This will be Prime Minister Manele’s first official international visit since taking office in May 2024.
Australia and the Solomon Islands are close friends with a shared destiny and a history of close cooperation.
Prime Minister Albanese and Prime Minister Manele will meet at Parliament House to discuss opportunities to further strengthen the bilateral relationship, including through security partnerships, economic development, labour mobility pathways and infrastructure cooperation.
“I look forward to welcoming Prime Minister Manele on his first visit to Australia following the historic coalition election in Solomon Islands in April.”
“We highly value our position as the partner of choice for the Solomon Islands.”
“My Government is committed to listening to Solomon Islands and working with them as equals to discuss how we can deepen our partnership and start a new era of cooperation,” Prime Minister Albanese said.
Prime Minister Manele will also travel to Queensland to hear about how the Pacific Australia Labour Mobility Program can bring economic benefits to Solomon Islands and Australia, and to discuss our humanitarian and policing cooperation.
The visit will be the second meeting between the two leaders, following the November 2023 Pacific Islands Forum Leaders’ Meeting that both Prime Minister Albanese and Prime Minister Manele will attend.
