June 22, 2024 (El Fasher) – Violent clashes between the Sudan Liberation Movement/Army led by Minni Minawi (SLM/A-MM) and defectors of the Revolutionary Awakening Council loyal to the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in Libya have resulted in casualties on both sides, military sources revealed on Saturday.
UN reports show that thousands of Sudanese fighters are stationed in various cities in Libya, operating within the forces of retired Major General Khalifa Haftar. However, after the Sudanese war broke out in mid-April 2023, some military groups began to withdraw to Sudanese territory to support the warring parties.
According to sources from Sudan Tribune, the forces under the command of General Mohammed Bakhit Ajab Aldol, a defector from the Revolutionary Awakening Council, repelled an attack by SLM/AMINI elements when they tried to enter Sudanese territory. The attack took place in the Balanja region of Libya, and the SLM/AMINI suffered heavy losses.
The Revolutionary Awakening faction, which is allied with the RSF, reportedly seized 15 military vehicles, four supply trucks and ammunition, and captured several soldiers.
The separatist group’s commander, General Mohammed Bakhit Ajab al-Aldol, supports the RSF, while Revolutionary Awakening Council Chairman Moussa Hilal is allied with the Sudanese army.
Last week, Dole’s forces began withdrawing from Libya to Sudan to support the Rapid Security Forces, which are involved in bloody clashes in El Fasher, the capital of North Darfur state.
Moussa Hilal fired Ajab Aldol, accusing him of corruption and causing divisions within the organization.
Meanwhile, RSF field commander Ali Rizq Allah, nicknamed “Al-Savanna,” claimed that their forces control the tri-border area connecting Sudan, Libya and Chad.
Al Savannah said the Rapid Security Forces destroyed a mobile force that attempted to attack the positions of the Darfur armed movement in the Greater Desert area.
He also reported that they had defeated the armed movement’s forces in the towns of “Umbar” and “Alori” and killed its commander, Brigadier General Moussa Kom Gurob.
Sudan Tribune has been unable to independently verify these claims and has yet to receive a response from the Joint Forces of the Darfur Armed Movements.
Over the past week, heavy fighting took place between armed movements loyal to the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and the RSF near the RSF base “Al-Zurq” in the tri-border area.
The Rapid Security Forces claimed to have thwarted the armed movement’s plan to break the siege of El Fasher, destroying a large number of mobile forces and seizing more than 100 military vehicles.
