The Nigeria Football Federation has congratulated Super Falcons captain Rashidat Ajibade on her recent win as Spanish top club Atletico Madrid Women’s Player of the Season.
Ajibade’s outstanding performances throughout the season culminated in the decisive goal against Villarreal Women in the final, ensuring Atlético Madrid’s qualification for next season’s UEFA Champions League.
She finished the season with 10 goals and eight assists, highlighting the key role she played in the team’s success.
The Secretary General of the Nigeria Football Federation, Dr. Mohammed Sanusi, expressed the federation’s pride in Ajibade’s achievements, stressing that she is a role model of discipline, dedication and commitment for both club and national teams.
“Rashidat has always been a role model and embodied the qualities that a star player should have. Her discipline, dedication and patriotism were evident in her performances for the Super Falcons,” Dr Sanusi said.
“We congratulate her on this prestigious honour and are sure it will inspire her to lead the Super Falcons to glory at the upcoming Women’s Olympic Football Championship in France.”
At last year’s World Cup in Australia, Ajibade played a key role in the Super Falcons’ progress to the last 16, where they remained unbeaten in regular time but were eliminated by England on penalties.
After the World Cup, Ajibade became the captain of the Super Falcons and led the team to qualify for the Women’s Olympic Football Championship for the first time in 16 years.
