ZURICH – A Zurich court sentenced a Bosnian citizen (36) to a 15-month suspended sentence and expulsion from Switzerland for five years for stealing parcels worth 100,000 francs while working as a postman.
That is, as he was heard during the trial, he stole parcels while working as a postman for the Swiss postal service. It was confirmed that he stole 43 parcels with a total value of 100,000 francs.
That is, he would use the device to scan packages as if they had been delivered, even though none of them ended up arriving at the correct address. The goods he removed from the packages were resold in Switzerland or shipped to Bosnia and Herzegovina. He mainly targeted televisions, but also coffee machines, generators and two bicycles.
He himself admitted during the trial that every day he expected the police to show up at his door, but nothing happened.
“I really don’t understand why no one noticed me for two months,” he said, repeatedly stressing that he did not become a criminal voluntarily.
That is, he had gambling debts. He wanted to pay them off with the money from the resale. His lawyer said his “game” was classic: he borrowed new debts to pay off old debts. At one point, these debts amounted to half a million francs. He allegedly owed them to 70 people, some in Switzerland and some in Bosnia.
However, as time went on, creditors began threatening to burn down his parents’ house, which is why he had to take urgent action. Ultimately, he decided to steal and resell the things he was supposed to give to the townspeople.
