Senior National Security Advisor and Chief of Staff to the President Sagara Ratnayaka announced that President Ranil Wickremesinghe has directed that necessary measures be taken to rebuild or provide maximum compensation to houses that were completely damaged in the recent severe weather conditions.
Mr. Sagara Ratnayaka also said that steps would be taken to assess the losses and provide compensation for repairing some of the damaged houses, subject to the prescribed maximum limit.
Mr. Sagara Ratnayaka shared these views during a discussion held at the Presidential Secretariat yesterday (20th) on the reconstruction of houses that were fully and partially damaged due to recent severe weather conditions.
The meeting extensively discussed the reconstruction of houses affected by natural disasters such as strong winds, floods and landslides that have occurred across the country in recent days. The meeting also discussed the issue of providing appropriate compensation (but not exceeding the maximum limit).
Ensure adequate compensation within the prescribed limits for completely damaged houses after reaching agreement with the beneficiaries and expedite the construction of such houses with the assistance of the armed forces. Also discussed is the assessment and rehabilitation of partially damaged houses, also subject to the prescribed maximum limits.
Mr. Sagara Ratnayaka also directed the district secretaries to submit official reports on the houses that were fully and partially damaged due to natural calamities.
Deputy Defense Minister Pramitha Bandara Tennakoon, the three service chiefs and heads of relevant direct agencies participated in the discussion. District secretaries and divisional secretaries participated in the discussion remotely through online technology.
