Statements cause a stir – Now Gareth Southgate is being mocked – UEFA Euro 2024

After the first two UEFA Champions League games, a win against Serbia (1-0) and a draw with Denmark (1-1), the England national team manager was flooded with criticism.

This was despite the fact that England had already booked a place in the final round.

Now, the pressure is mounting on him, to say the least.

On social media, it seems to be a sport to poke fun at the England national team manager as much as possible.

The four images, which you can see in the image swipe below, have been viewed more than 9 million times on X as of this writing, and have garnered nearly 200,000 likes since being posted Thursday night.

– I think he lives well with it. When you take over as England’s national team manager, it’s written in your job description that you just have to toughen yourself up and face everything that makes headlines and is ridiculous. That’s probably the least of his worries. His main concern is getting the England team back on track, says NRK expert Kristoffer Løkberg.

And add:

– Now they are light years away from becoming European champions.

harsh criticism

Because even England’s team of experts have been far from impressed with Gareth Southgate and his side’s performances in the Euros so far.

Writing in the BBC, former superstar striker Alan Shearer delivered a ruthless verdict on England’s performance against Denmark:

“It was very bad and it wasn’t good enough. I don’t want to say they lacked effort or they didn’t try, but these players have so much more to offer. Shearer said Gareth was not getting the best out of his best players at the moment.

On the one hand, individual players and big-name stars alike have struggled to make a real impression for England, with many also suggesting the team is playing boring football under Gareth Southgate.

Jonathan Liu of The Guardian said after the match against Denmark:

“It’s a vision that’s actually so bad it’s boring”.

Barney Ronet of the same newspaper believes that England’s most glaring problem is a complete lack of midfield. In the Euros, Southgate tried to use right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold in a midfield role, but so far without much success.

That’s why when the England manager was interviewed on television after the game against Denmark and was asked about the midfield situation, many frowned.

– It’s an experiment. “We know we don’t have a natural replacement for Kalvin Phillips but we are trying different things,” Southgate said.

Southgate is well aware that the level must be raised if the Euros are not to become a setback for the team that lost last European Championship final.

Christopher Rockberg himself has been to Germany and watched the England team up close from the stands.

The NRK specialist and Elite Series competitor has failed to impress himself so far.

– It seems to me that Southgate is trying to use the best eleven players, but this is not what constitutes a potential best eleven. No team has come out in the first two games and looked a team with complementary skills. Luckberg believes that there is a group of very good football players, but they do not perform particularly well together.

He believes drastic measures must be taken by the England manager if they are to move in the right direction and achieve success for a country that has not won a major trophy since the 1966 World Cup.

– It’s time for Southgate to ‘go big or go home’. He must now take his chances with either Adam Walton or Kobe Bryant. Jude Bellingham is one of the two alongside Declan Rice, playing a slightly freer role. Lockbaugh’s advice is that this could be hard or difficult.

Many also criticised Gareth Southgate for his withdrawals in both games, such as in-form player Cole Palmer not being allowed to withdraw, and also criticised the EC team itself for withdrawing.

Big-name players like Jack Grealish and Marcus Rashford were not deemed good enough to be included.

Rashford’s brother jabs

After the 1-1 draw against Denmark, Rashford’s brother and agent Dwayne Maynard couldn’t help himself.

“It’s hard to sit back and watch this happen when you sincerely believe your husband could make a difference,” he wrote in X, publicly criticizing what happened to his brother.

Christopher Rockberg realises there is still much that needs to be corrected for the Three Lions.

But the NRK expert highlighted at least one bright spot for England so far.

– It would have to be Marc Gueye, who has done well at centre-back, because a lot of people have asked how he should be formed. He has got out of the way well, but I think he would also like to have a left-footed defender around him. Playing with Kieran Trippier would also cause problems. He thinks the only thing he can do is carry the ball inside and they can’t get the natural rhythm of the game from there.

Football expert Kasper Wickstad urged Britons to have ice in their stomachs.

– So far they haven’t impressed, but despite that they’ve got four points. They’ll need a lot of effort to get out. We’ve seen teams before that have impressed early and gone out early. Then I’ve seen teams that didn’t play well at the beginning but won in the end. Portugal won their first game in the semifinals in 2016, Vickstad pointed out.

England’s next match is against Slovenia on Tuesday 25 June.
