Fiji Flying Circus

Fiji is the latest country to compete to host its first circus show.
With an all-Fijian cast, the show blends the dramatic performances of circus with the narrative power of dance.
This experience combines comedy, theatre, dance and thrilling circus acts to bring to life a unique and magical story: The Story of Fiji’s Flying Circus.
RNZ Pacific interviewed voice Dance company director Sachiko Soro said there was a wealth of content for the audience to enjoy.
“We have acrobats, we have my poles, which are people performing on very, very high poles.
“We had ladies with hanging hair, we had aerial silks, we had magicians and jugglers.”
“And of course, in Fijian fashion, we have some very entertaining clowning and dancing. So, yes, there is a lot to look forward to,” she said.
The actors have been training for more than a year with the help of Cuban coaches.
Solo said five circus trainers had come from Havana, two of them from the Caribbean country’s National Circus School.
“They have been training the Fijian dancers from the VOU Dance Company for over a year in different professional skills,” she said.
“I’m so proud of all the artists who really grew in their training and fused it with some cultural stories and it turned out so beautifully.
“I can’t wait to show it to our community in Fiji,” added Solo.
The exhibition will be held in Nadi from June 26 to July 6.
International tour dates have yet to be announced.
