Four security guards were arrested by police in Suriname on Wednesday for allegedly planning a robbery that involved a large amount of raw gold extracted by their employer at a gold mine in the Nassau area.

Their employer, a 53-year-old Brazilian entrepreneur, was collecting gold in a mining area when he heard a gunshot in the woods. The security guard he hired told him there were bandits in the area and that he should hide.

The Brazilian entrepreneur did go into hiding, and when he reappeared a little later, he was surprised to find that the gold medal he had won was gone.

The entrepreneur sought explanation from the guards and asked them where the gold was. They stated that they knew nothing about the missing gold and stood their ground. The security guards then stated that they would no longer remain at the location as the situation was unsafe. They left the location in a private car and headed for Paramaribo.

The entrepreneur did not trust the matter and strongly suspected that the security guard knew more about the matter. He chartered a helicopter and flew to Paramaribo. He then drove to the Redidotti Police Assistance Station and informed the Surinamese police of the matter. Strong Arm initiated an investigation together with the victim.

The private car in which the security guards left the area was ordered to stop by the Central District Ward officers following the instructions of the entrepreneur.

During the inspection of the car, about two kilograms of raw gold were found and seized.

The security guards were arrested and taken to the police station. Their fate will be decided in consultation with the Surinamese prosecution service.
