Young lady’s chevron armband shines
The much-loved Biza was once again in the spotlight as the Zimbabwe Women’s U19 cricket team beat Namibia by a huge margin of 103 runs in the second T20 match of the six-match series on Tuesday.
The 15-year-old Biza scored 62 on Monday and 11 more in the second innings of the series to help Zimbabwe to 146-4 in 20 overs.
She was outstanding, scoring 73 points, half of Zimbabwe’s total points, while Kelkis Ndlovu added 21 points.
Namibia did put up some resistance through Leigh Marie Visser (2/14) and Estelle van der Merwe (1/18), but the Young Lady Chevrons, with their stealth and good form, managed to get a good result in 20 games per team.
When the Namibia U-19 Women’s team got their chance to bat, they found it tough going for their opponents Zimbabwe, who were looking to make it a bigger win than the day before.
Chipo Moyo struck again to hand Namibia a disastrous defeat, however this time it was Kellis Ndlovu who proved to be the killer as Namibia suffered a crushing defeat at home.
Ndlovu incredibly took 5 wickets and scored only 4 runs, while Moyo took 2 wickets and scored 16 runs as Namibia was defeated by 43 runs in 12.1 overs.
Unlike the first match where no Namibian batsman scored in double figures, Mekelaye Mwatile (10) and Leigh Marie Visser (10) managed to reach the milestone.
However, due to accurate Zimbabwean bowling, they were not able to stay in the batting line for long and in the end the Young Lady Chevrons won by 103 runs to win the series 2-0.
Zimbabwe won by 96 runs on Monday but fell just short of a three-digit margin of victory, ensuring they were soundly beaten by their regional rivals on Tuesday.
The six-match T20 series is part of the preparations for the 2025 International Cricket Council Women’s Under-19 World Cup.
