(CNS): The Ministry of Tourism declined to answer questions from the Cayman News Service regarding the cost of paying for a bachelorette party for a TikTok influencer and her future husband in the Cayman Islands. Mei Meiher fiancé and all invitees, officials said in a press statement that it invites “journalists and influencers” to “showcase what is unique about the Cayman Islands” and infiltrate social media channels.
On the Cayman Islanders’ social media pages, some questioned whether the Department of Tourism’s latest campaign was a good use of its promotional resources. However, a Department of Tourism spokesperson said there were many reasons for choosing to work with Meimei.
“She lives outside of Atlanta, which is our direct air market, and her demographics match our traveler profile,” they said. “She has over 3 million followers on TikTok and over 250,000 followers on Instagram. 88% of her followers are in the U.S. and 2% are in Canada. The states where she has the most followers include California, Texas, Florida, and New York, which are key markets for this destination. Her average engagement rate is 49% (compared to the industry average of 2%) and her TikTok growth rate is 30%, meaning she is one of the top 30% performing profiles.”
Last weekend, Meimei posted a video of herself speaking to the “entire government” of the Cayman Islands and being invited there, which was reposted by the local Instagram page @everythin345. However, she appeared to be referring to Praytell, one of the new U.S. agencies created by the U.S. Department of Transportation, which recently Signed a contract An offer worth over $2.8 million. It seems that the agency decided to make this generous offer after seeing the influencer’s previous post.
The Department of Transportation has not yet responded to our request for information on the cost, but said they expected Mei Mei and her friends to be active during their trip to Grand Cayman.
“We will provide the group with luxurious accommodations at Black Urchin in Bodden Town, which allows us to highlight our accommodation offerings near Seven Mile Beach,” the Department of Transportation said. “The Cayman Islands is known as the culinary capital of the Caribbean, and we will showcase our culinary talents through authentic dining experiences with Caymanian chefs and mixology classes featuring local rum. We will end their island experience with a boat tour to Stingray City, highlighting one of our most popular attractions.”
The resort charges 2,000 Cayman dollars per night in the summer, with a five-night minimum stay, but the Ministry of Transport has not yet revealed when the influencer and his team will arrive.
