I hear and read anti-immigrant comments everywhere. Usually linked to the EU and the Agreement of Association. These comments do nothing but make me sad because I am also an immigrant like many others. In Andorra, I would not say 100%, but 95% of the population are either immigrants or have immigrant roots or at least have had to immigrate, even if for a short period, to pursue studies or receive medical treatment or other reasons. All of us have contributed to the development of this country in a greater or lesser way.
I say that what makes me sad is that immigrants are rejected and that immigrants are not attacked and accused of all the sins of this country, not only because I am one of them, even if I decided to settle here and build my life project there, and I love Andorra as much as my country of origin, or even more, but also because it shows a lack of knowledge… The claim that the EU brings more immigrants is neither true nor synonymous with immigration and more crime. It is everywhere, if you do not look at the statistics published by the European Commission at the beginning of June, which show that of the 61 people imprisoned last January, 23 held Andorran passports and the other 37, 22 of them were EU citizens. Certain proportions that more or less correspond to the demographic structure of the country and confirm what I said at the beginning of this paragraph: it is everywhere and everything.
I also feel sad about the attitude of these people coming from other places being rejected for their lack of willingness to learn and enrich themselves socially and culturally.
