this despicable Me Movies originally were about a bumbling bad guy with a good heart. But that was a long time ago. For several movies, Steve Carell’s antihero Gru has been a staunch citizen on the right side of the law, with even his crime-fighting duties outweighing his fatherly duties.

His family has expanded to Despicable Me 4directed by series regular Chris Renaud (with Patrick Delage). In addition to their three adopted daughters, Gru and his perfect wife Lucy (Kristen Wiig) now have a biological son, which is a further proof of their dignity, although little Gru has inherited his father’s rebellious side.
Hilariously, Gru looks the same in appearance, a scowling troll who is definitely a bit related to Uncle Fester from The Addams Family (one of his enemies calls him a “walking boiled potato,” a description that couldn’t be more apt, as his long nose is stuck in like a blade to check if he’s fully cooked).
This is despicable Me How does the brain trust see itself? Gru’s co-creator Pierre Coffin is French, which may have helped him escape a certain degree of the “funny foreigner” stereotype. But while Carell’s accent is typically “Slavic,” the series’ ethnic comedy so far has been far less intense than Adam Sandler’s Hotel Transylvania movie.
Despicable Me 4The story opens squarely on assimilation, however, with Gru and his family being placed into a kind of witness protection program after being targeted by a flamboyant French antagonist (played by Will Ferrell, basically a carbon copy of the evil fashion designer Mugatu from his film). Gru is told that the key to success is to “not be too much like Gru.” Fortunately, this theme is barely developed. The same is true of the other themes, which are inevitable because there are so many subplots.
Lucy’s new job as a hairstylist doesn’t go anywhere, nor does Gru’s daughters’ karate lessons. A more promising setup has an aspiring teenage badass (Joey King) blackmailing Gru into becoming her mentor, but even that turns out to be too weak a character.
