Chimanes has left a lesson for Bolivia. The indigenous people of eastern Bolivia have always adhered to their infallible generosity. The tragedy of the Lauzo Bridge, which killed eight members of a family, ended with an example of life: generously sharing donations with others in need. What a difference from what is seen in everyday public scenes!

Those who survived the tragedy have remained silent, despite the anger and resentment that the pain may have fueled. Their loved ones were crushed to death by a newly constructed bridge for unknown reasons. The bodies were bagged and thrown into mass graves without dignity, an ominous sign of a lack of humanity. Social protests led to the bodies being exhumed and buried with respect. The Chimanes respect and uphold their values and principles, consistent with what they learned from their ancestors.

Far from being resentful, members of this community are teaching the country a lesson. This is so needed when Bolivia observes leaders and authorities putting their own interests first, even at the expense of the interests of the majority. Faced with authorities who cannot solve problems and experts who drag their feet on the issue, leaders and politicians obstruct. Silence and concrete and timely actions are much better than making noise and divisive rhetoric. Thanks Chimney!
